Before afternoon tea there was a short Question Time segment where those attending conference could put questions to a panel made up from the speakers and members of theNASHiCS National Executive.
The final session, Safeguarding and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS) was given by Richard Hardman, Director of Service Development at Barchester Healthcare.
This was a lively presentation to end the day and Richard mixed humour with a dash of good sense in order to explore a challenging subject. He covered the complexities of the Mental Capacity Act and the difficulties of working with health and safety conflicts that arise.
Richard ended by saying that the existence of a service users right to make their own decisions should maybe be seen as a basic right from which to start decisions about their care.
Andy Hollingshead, Vice Chair of NASHiCS closed the Forum by thanking all the speakers and exhibitors and sharing the hope that everyone would meet up again at the next NASHICS National Forum in 2013.
Our thanks once again to the exhibitors.
