Loyalty can be a strength but it can also be masking a bigger problem!

The latest Click Pulse Workforce Report provides some interesting insight into what more than 57,000 people working in adult social care are actually experiencing.

One finding that will catch people’s attention is that team leaders and supervisors report strong intentions to stay but are significantly less likely to recommend their organisation as a place to work.

That raises an important question: Are we sometimes interpreting loyalty as evidence that people are okay? People can be deeply committed to the people they support, proud of the work they do and still be struggling with their own experience at work. In fact a strong sense of purpose may sometimes make people more willing to tolerate pressures that should not be ignored.

For leaders this is where workforce data becomes more than a set of reassuring scores. We need to look beneath the headline numbers and understand what they are actually telling us because the absence of people leaving does not necessarily mean the presence of a healthy culture.

This is well worth a read for anyone involved in leading, governing or supporting adult social care.

Loyalty can be a strength but it can also be masking a bigger problem!
