Linda Dixon – Health and Social Care Trainer with Forget Me Not Dementia Care.
Been a member for a number of years joined the National Executive. Then in June 2024 she became Joint Vice Chair with Sarah Smith.
I began my career in Health & Social Care before it was a ‘thing’, before Health & Safety became an ‘Act’, when the only time you took notice of Health & Safety was when you worked in offices, shops, factories or railways, and I didn’t, but I had. But like all of us I learned health and safety at home, it was called common sense!
Having spent many years working in just about every care setting you can think of and probably many you can’t, doing all the work asked of me, I started to think seriously about health and safety when I was asked to provide first aid information for a chemical that was so dangerous, one drop on your skin would eat you up! Yes we really did use things like this, and that was in the 1980’s.
Eventually I became a registered manager of a nursing and domicliary care agency. By this time I had completed an advanced certificate in health and safety, but needed help. Someone suggested NASHiCS, and I haven’t looked back since. I went to a networker in Scotland, and learned so much I joined.
I became an NE member to help, and to pass on my 55 years of care experience and 30 + years as a trainer, to others. I want to see us growing new members from all care settings in the UK, the small companies that need our experiences to grow themselves, the large and medium companies who are willing to help everyone learn. Every person is a teacher, good teachers drop ideas into a person’s brain, never knowing where the ripples of the idea will stop.
