Incident Investigations and Legal Update

Lawyers from DAC Beachcroft will lead a highly interactive session guiding members through the process of conducting internal investigations and managing external scrutiny following a serious safety incident in a care setting. We will use a case study to place you the in the shoes of the managers responsible for overseeing the incident response and we will look at:

• Gathering evidence and understanding what happened.
• Managing witnesses – providing support, taking good quality witness statements and managing conflicts
• Balancing competing interests between internal and external investigation and scrutiny from regulators and the press;
• Responding to formal information requests and questions under caution; and
• Getting back to normal and ensuring delivery of safe care, as quickly as possible.

We will then close the day with a short legal update to flag recent legal developments and cases of interest.
