Sarah Smith

Assistant Director for Health and Safety with The Order of St Johns Care Trust.

Elected as joint Vice Chair in June 2024.

I am a chartered health and safety professional with over 30 years’ experience. My current role is Assistant Director, Health and Safety at The Orders of St John Care Trust.

During my career I have led the health and safety agenda in large multi-site organisations in the healthcare, central and local government sectors.

I have been an active member of Nashics since I joined it in 2015 and have found it an excellent forum for networking, high quality events and training and also for providing really useful sector specific information and updates.

I have a particular interest in strategy development, planning, behavioural safety, training and also investigating and piloting anything new and innovative. I work continuously to identify root causes of incidents, and gaps in processes to reduce risk.

I believe that health and safety is everyone’s responsibility and that we need to foster an environment where everyone looks after one another whether in relation to our residents, clients, employees, visitors or anyone else affected by the things that we do.

I joined the National Executive because I think it is an exciting time to be part of Nashics. I see it growing and developing further over the next couple of years and being even more relevant within the sector, particularly in helping the smaller providers. I want to be part of that.
